Back to competition for Lyon! After a complicated end to the year with mixed results and a slew of injuries, the team wanted to start off on the right foot. This new decade begins with the start of the their Coupe de France adventure. A competition in which the protégés of Jean-Michel Aulas had a measure revenge to take. And this would first require success on the field of Bourg-en-Bresse, a team who have played in the National since 2018.
In an energetic start to this encounter, OL had their first scare on a magnificent rolled shot from Romany at the edge of the area which forced Anthony Lopes to make a big save (10 ’). It was a first warning which did not destabilize Lyon, on the contrary. A few minutes later, Moussa Dembélé took advantage of a bad pass out from the back by the defense to win a one on one against the keeper with a side-footed shot. Against the run of play, OL opened the scoring (17 ’, 0-1). While the attackers of Bourg-en-Bresse demonstrated quality and made good forays forward, the defense made mistakes. The hosts were thus punished a second time on a breakthrough by Houssem Aouar who sees his cross, poorly cleared, collected by Moussa Dembélé who hit a powerful shot on goal (41’, 0-2). Despite the first twenty minutes having been played to the advantage of the locals, les Gones looked on their way to recovering.
The players of Rudi Garcia come back strong and Martin Terrier concluded a good move by volleying a ball in off the right post (47 ’, 0-3). On the return from the locker room, the opportunities fell like rain and Maxwel Cornet scored the fourth on an assist by a very inspired Moussa Dembélé. Fully in control at this point, Lyon left no chance to their hosts. Maxence Caqueret added to the Aindinois misery with a powerful strike from outside the area (83 ', 0-5) and was immediately followed by Houssem Aouar and Rayan Cherki, who both scored to bring the final score to 0-7 (89 ', 90 + 1').
On their entry into the Coupe de France, Lyon thus delivered a serious performance against their opponent, despite their hosts playing in the National. By playing their own football, OL won in Bourg-en-Bresse and head towards the Round of 32.
. EXPERT ANALYSIS - Bryan Bergougnoux.
The first goal of Moussa Dembélé completely liberated Lyon after a complicated start to the match. Bourg's game plan bothered us a lot with their high pressing. It was an entirely different game starting with the second goal. It became more complicated for Bourg, who felt they could not level the score.
