Bourg – OL (CDF) : A Cup match to start 2020 (Saturday, 20h55)
"It is time for 2019 to end." Having arrived in October on the Lyon bench, Rudi Garcia has had to deal over this holiday period with a bitter taste in his mouth after a missed opportunity in Reims in the league as well as the cascade of injuries that have decimated his squad. Despite these issues, OL have still managed to progress on all fronts: the team is far from having given up in its quest for the podium in Ligue 1, they have qualified for the quarterfinals of the Coupe de la Ligue and the Round of 16 of the Champions League and now take aim at a new trophy, the Coupe de France, which begins this Saturday with a short trip to Bourg-en-Bresse.
It is on a cruel scenario that saw Lyon conclude their campaign in this competition last season. After having scored twice against Rennes, Nabil Fekir's teammates still had a great opportunity to qualify for a national cup final. Now, OL must start from scratch, in the Round of 64 of the Coupe de France, to hope to win a trophy that has eluded them since 2012.
Relegated to the National in 2018 after three seasons at the level above, the FBBP01 have the ambitions to earn promotion. Currently 8th in the National, Bourg-en-Bresse have not yet buried its hopes of promotion, as they are only 6 points off the podium. The players of Karim Mokeddem, well known in the Lyon region for his fine performances with AS Lyon-Duchère, can count on Anani, who already has 9 goals in the league this season and is the second-best scorer in the championship.
