Recap: Rayan Cherki's masterpiece elected 2019 Academy goal of the year!
1 - Rayan Cherki : FC Nantes – OL 18/05/2019 (CN U17), 46%After the goals scored by Moussa Dembélé in January during the derby and the one scored by Amel Majri in September during the Champions Trophy against PSG, you voted for the goal of Rayan Cherki scored in May against Nantes as the most beautiful among all those of the teams of the Lyon academy. It must be said that it is worth a moment of your time. Even if it did not prevent the OL U17 from falling against Les Canaris on the pitch of the legendary Marcel Saupin stadium, Cherki's goal remains a model of achievement alone. Picked out on the right side, in the Nantes half, he used speed to beat the first opponent, then a second with a nutmeg to enter the penalty area, beat a last defender and then the goalkeeper with a strike into the opposite corner. It's a real gem that must be praised!
2 - Jairzinho Fumont : DFCO – OL, 03/03/2019 (CN U19), 24%
His first name pays homage to one of the greatest artists that Brazilian football has put forth in its history. And the goal he scored against Dijon last season would certainly not have been out of place among those scored by his illustrious Brazilian elder. Jairzinho Fumont, a young OL player from the 2000 generation, was the author of a brilliant and decisive finish. Present in the midfield to nick the ball from the feet of an opposing player, the native of Pointe-à-Pitre dribbled through the centre circle before looking up. His run slows when he realizes that the Dijon 'keeper is off his line. Positioned on the halfway line, he unleashes a strike high enough not to be touched by the goalkeeper and long enough for him to finish his run at the back of the net. A masterpiece that we never tire of!
3 - Hamza Rafia : OL – Ajax Amsterdam, 12/03/19 (Youth League), 19%
Was it inspired by Jairzinho Fumont? Anyway, just a few days after the goal scored from the midfield by his friend from Lyon, Hamza Rafia distinguished himself by scoring almost the same against Ajax. In this big match in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Youth League, which Lyon would finally won on penalties, the former OL number ten made all the spectators at the Groupama OL Training Center stand up by scoring from the centre circle after an exchange with Maxence Caqueret. Again, the OL man had managed to recover the ball from his opponent, then sent an unstoppable shot past the opposing goalkeeper, giving us two similar goals only separated by a few points in the voting.
4 - Djibrail Dib : OL – SL Benfica, 05/11/2019 (Youth League), 10%
Once more, the Groupama OL Training Center took notice of this fine goal. In the big match against SL Benfica during the 4th matchday of the group stage of the Youth League, the fans who filled the stands were privileged to see a fantastic strike courtesy of Djibrail Dib. Placed just outside the area, slightly to the right, the latter was the author of an exquisite left-footed shot that came to rest in the opposite corner of the Lisbon goal. It was a gesture full of class despite his side being down 0-2 but which unfortunately would not affect the final result. The young Olympians would fall at the end (2-3) but would still manage to finish second in Group G, behind their opponent on the day, and progress to the next round.
