Reims - OL : End on a high note (Saturday, 20h45)
We left a devastated OL last Sunday following a defeat at home against Rennes (0-1) and serious injuries to two of their flagship players, Memphis and Jeff Reine-Adélaïde. The club did not have much time to work together, as three days later, they received Toulouse in the Round of 16 in the Coupe de la Ligue. With a very revamped team, the locals played well and won (4-1), delivering a strong performance against a poor TFC. It was enough to give heart to all in a squad about to end 2019 away to Reims, a side who wants to claim a second consecutive success.
Now 10 points behind Marseille in second OL have no choice: they will have to play a second half at a high level to get back into the European places. Without considering OM, a small buffer is being created by clubs such as Lille in third (six points ahead), Rennes (4th, five points ahead) and Nantes (5th, four points ahead) The stakes in this meeting against Reims can possibly deliver an operation focused on performing well with an eye on next May. It will take a united and efficient team, though to overcome an uneven start. Especially since with a victory, Lyon would pass up the evening's opponents.
In Reims, the situation is quite different. The team coached by David Guion is experiencing an unexpected season: already author of a very good season last year (8th, 55 points), things have startedin the same vein in the current campaign (6th, 27 points). With only four losses, they rank third in losses this season, behind only PSG and OM (3 losses each). Moreover, those two sides fell against Reims, who decidedly love facing more heralded opponents. OM (0-2), LOSC (2-0), Monaco (0-0), PSG (0-2), Rennes (0-1) and St-Etienne (3-1): these clubs all failed to beat this surprising team. OL are therefore warned: nothing will be a given at the Stade Auguste-Delaune.
