Megan Rapinoe wins the Ballon d'Or
Olympique Lyonnais congratulates Megan Rapinoe, recent winner of the World Cup at Groupama Stadium, who won tonight the 2019 Ballon d'Or ahead of Lucy Bronze and Alex Morgan. Megan Rapinoe succeeds Ada Hegerberg, winner last year of the 1st Women's Ballon d'Or, which also had 6 other OL players, Dzsenifer Marozsan (3rd), Lucy Bronze (6th), Amandine Henry and Wendie Fox (7th), Saki Kumagai (12th) and Amel Majri (13th) on the short list.
Champion of France in 2013 and 2014 with Olympique Lyonnais, Megan Rapinoe plays today with Seattle's Reign FC, with which OL has recently started exclusive takeover talks. Olympique Lyonnais is very proud to be, this year again, the club most represented among the names of the Ballon d'Or short list with 6 players (Ada Hegerberg, Sarah Bouhaddi, Wendie Renard, Henry Amandine, Dzsenifer Marozsan and Lucy Bronze) among the 20 contenders for the title.
Olympique Lyonnais also congratulates its Japanese international, Saki Kumagai, who was voted best Asian player of the year 2019 today in Hong Kong in a trophy ceremony by the AFC, the Asian confederation. The club is also pleased to note that its international defender Lucy Bronze, 2nd in the FIFA Awards, has been voted the best European player of 2019 by UEFA ahead of Ada Hegerberg and Amandine Henry.
