Ballon d'Or : Wendie Renard, the golden captain
A leader in central defense, where she plays for both her club and national team, Wendie Renard has risen to the rank of one of the best players in the world in her position. Always thirsty for a title, she regularly collects trophies with OL. After 6 Women's Champions League and 13 D1 Arkema titles in a row, and 8 Coupes de France, she still wants more. Rewarded by her presence in the team of the year at The Best FIFA Football Awards, she is naturally in the running to win the 2019 Women's Golden Ball as her influence has been again impressive for the club and the French team this year.
A hard worker, the Martinique-born played arrived in Lyon from her native island in 2006. She played little on here first season, but participated in the first title won by OL. This was the beginning of a "love story." From the following season, she became a fixture, and took the captain's armband in 2013, succeeding Sonia Bompastor.
She is not only a strong defender, but also an outstanding scorer. With a height of 1m87, she is formidable on set pieces. She notably scored Lyon's first goal in the Women's Champions League final against Potsdam in 2011. Since then, she continues to tally the goals, and has already scored 109 in all competitions.
