OL's trip to Montpellier was the weekend's big match in D1 Arkema. And for good reason, the girls of Jean-Luc Vasseur, second to PSG before the kickoff of this meeting, faced their direct competitor for second, MHSC, away from home. It was a duel of rivals that the visitors won going away.
At the start, the Rhodaniennes, eager to ramp up the level of the engagement, took the advantage thanks to a header by Wendie Renard on a corner delivered by Dzsenifer Marozsan (4 ', 0-1). This opening early score put the OL in very good standing. Ultra domineering, the reigning French champion doubled the lead before the end of the first act through the German international (39 ', 0-2), after a recovery high up the pitch.
The hard part was thus done before the break. The Olympian physical intensity and technical quality prevented Montpellier from getting back in the game. In the 200th appearance, in all competitions, for Saki Kumagai for OL, the visitors were going to snatch their seventh win of the season, confirmed by a final score from Ada Hegerberg (71 ', 0-3).
But despite this success, something did tarnish the weekend for OL this side: booked for the third time this season, Wendie Renard will be suspended for the big clash against PSG in two weeks at Groupama Stadium. It's an opponent that the OL for the moment is ahead of in the table but will have to beat on the 9th matchday to overtake definitively ...
THE REACTIONS .
Jean-Luc Vasseur :
"It was not easy to play on this pitch, facing a quality team like Montpellier. It was a battle, a fight. We had a very good game. The players showed control and were patient to score. I will not argue about the yellow card given to Wendie (Renard) but we must help our referees, give them the means to make the right decisions. We had a bit of a hard time with that. Despite this, there was mutual respect between the two teams during this meeting. "
Dzsenifer Marozsan :
"It was a very difficult match, in a tough venue. We played well. We kept the ball, we played and we managed to score quickly. The card for Wendie (Renard) is disappointing. We are happy to have won. "
