ASSE - OL : une bien triste soirée à oublier (1-0)
This Sunday, in the big match of the 9th matchday of Ligue 1 Conforama saw OL face its eternal enemy, ASSE, at the Geoffroy Guichard, for a derby played under high tension between two poorly-ranked teams. It was a decisive encounter in which Lyon came out big losers, having been reduced to ten men following the injury-enforced exit of Dubois and defeated on a goal late in the game Berić.

20'. On a rebound from Boudebouz, Lopes saves by deflecting the ball onto the post.
Dangerous free kick from Memphis that does not go far off-target.
Teasing cross from Trauco to within six meters, nobody touches the ball as it drifts wide.
Powerful strike by Bouanga captured by Lopes.
Played long, Aouar controls and scores between the legs of Moulin. Goal denied for offside
Huge moment by Lopes who acrobatically saves from Bouanga at close range.
An exchange between Dembélé and Aouar finds the latter in space, but Moulin turns his shot behind for a corner.
Dembélé has a free header from the penalty spot, but his shot is blocked by Moulin.
Suffering from a thigh injury, Dubois, captain on the evening, must leave the field and leave his teammates playing with ten.
A big missed chance by Aouar, who gets in behind the defense but can't beat Moulin, who makes a well-timed dive.
Boudebouz centers for Berić, unmarked in the box, who beats Lopes with a diving header. 1-0.

The 119th derby in the history between the Lyonnais and Stéphanois, the 61st meeting at Geoffroy Guichard, had everything one could want from a match between two rivals about whom everything would normally be opposed, except, on this occasion, their start to the season. Les Verts, in bottom place before kick-off and led by Claude Puel, the former coach of OL having been newly installed, welcomed Les Gones, placed in 13th position, a ranking that does not correspond to the club's ambitions. This context, and that of the dreaded loss to a bitter rival, gave rise to a fearful start to the match on both sides. Neither team wanted to make a mistake and this led to a first period rich in challenges, but lacking in opportunities, during which Lopes nevertheless saved his side (20 ') and where Memphis created the only opportunity for the visitors before the break ( 36 '). It is from this slightly sad state of affairs that the two teams approached the second act. Unfortunately for OL, it was the Stéphanois who returned from the interval with the most conviction.

Once again impressive in goal, Lopes was called into action twice (54 ', 63') but managed to repel the danger. After this, the Olympians took control of the match but Dembélé lacked power (78 ') and Aouar missed a presentable chance (87'), after seeing his goal flagged off for offside (61 '). OL, however, were soon thereafter undone by their ambition. Reduced to ten men following injury to Dubois, while the three changes had already been made, the men of Sylvinho were surprised at the end of regular time by a header by Berić (90 ', 1-0), just like that scored by Dembélé last season, which had tormented Saint-Etienne's fans in the meantime. This time, it was OL who were left rooted to the spot. Undefeated in the derby for two years, they missed the opportunity to move ahead of Saint-Etienne in the number of derby victories. Worse, their rival passed them in the rankings and made them fall back into their recent bit of poor form ... The definition of a nightmare night.

We did not really come to play in this derby. We tried to defend to reassure ourselves but these are games that must be played to win, and to move forward. We did not offer what was needed to win, even if Saint-Étienne did not offer much more. Technically, we are a pretty strong team. The reality of having accumulated too many defensive players has been our undoing. The attackers were a bit isolated and it was difficult to string several passes in a row. We could not find each other and create links.
