U19 NAT : Lyon keep up the chase against Bourg-en-Bresse (4-1)
After a spectacular win last weekend against Troyes (5-3), Lyon were eager to continue their good momentum to stay in touch with the head of the championship. Fourth, just two points behind leader F.C. Metz, the men of Eric Hely and Pierre Chavrondier have made a rather convincing start to the season, marked in particular by a strong attack (second best in the division).
On the synthetic pitch of the Municipal Stadium of Péronnas, OL came into the meeting well-positioned and largely dominated proceedings. The young players of Lyon combined and created some good opportunities without being able to open the scoring. The edges of the area was the site of these several on attempts by Arthur Pontet and Mattéo Commaret but, each time, the final move lacked precision. Five minutes from the end of the first period, the hosts scored the first goal of the meeting on a free kick, put past the first post by Hadrian Derkum, beating Lucas Margueron. It was a cruel scenario for Lyon who conceded this goal on one of the rare incursions of Bourg-en-Bresse into their own half, but it allowed the hosts to lead them at halftime.
After the interval, the men of Eric Hély and Pierre Chavrondier are quickly rewarded through Noam Bonnet who managed to equalize. However, the hosts took control of the match and created chances themselves, as well, making several opportunities but Lucas Margueron made a string of saves. And it was indeed Lyon who took advantage at the hour mark thanks to Bradley Barcola who beat the goalkeeper from close range. OL mastered the end of the game by conceding only very few opportunities. Finally, Arthur Pontet allowed his team to make the break clear in the 75th minute by scoring his first goal of the season with a powerful shot that nestled just under the crossbar. The Lyon captain, Modeste Duku, puts an end to the match by scoring the fourth goal at the very end of the match, which allows him to join his team-mate Bradley Barcola at the top of the OL scorer standings this season (4 goals each).
OL confirmed its very good start to the season with this fourth victory in six games and is now closer to the top of the table and especially the leader, F.C Metz. Note that the Messins will be the next opponent in a match that looks exciting indeed.
