OL reinforce defense with Joachim Andersen

Joachim Andersen was born on May 31, 1996 in Frederiksberg, Denmark. His youth career was rather hectic: after nine years at Greve Fodbold (2000-2009), he joined FC Copenhagen (2009-2011) and FC Midtjylland (2011-2013), two of the biggest clubs in his native country. However, unable to fully establish himself in either team, he tried his luck in the Netherlands with FC Twente, where he finally signed his first professional contract in 2015.

After two seasons and 50 matches with the Eredivisie side, Andersen caught the eye of Sampdoria, who paid for €1.5 million for his services in 2017. Just 21 at the time, the defender initially struggled to earn a regular starting role, playing just seven Serie A matches and one Italian Cup game. Things finally took off for him in the 2018-2019 season. Partnering in the back with Lorenzo Tonelli, he had a breakout campaign (playing 32 league games) that established him as one of the league's top defenders. His performances also earned him his first national team call-up in March 2019.
With Andersen, OL have signed a strong, promising defender. Having already played in three different countries during his career, he already has the necessary experience that will be an asset during the Champions League. The fourth Danish player in club history has two main objectives this season: learn the team's defensive system and become an undisputed starter.
