Jean Lucas, the first stone in the new OL project
After successful youth spells with Nova Iguaçu (2006-2013) and Bonsucesso (2013-2015) in his native Brazil, Jean Lucas made the leap to Flamengo, where the now 21-year-old defensive midfielder turned pro last year. His first-team debut with the legendary Rio club came on January 17, 2018 in a match against Volta Redonda. He signed a three-year pro contract a month later and played 28 matches before being loaned out to Santos in February 2019.
Under the orders of head coach Jorge Sampaoli, the midfielder became an unquestioned starter and key piece of the Peixe's second-place finish in the Brasileiro Série before the Copa America break. A physically and technically gifted player, Jean Lucas is a highly valued prospect in the land of Jogo Bonito. OL will now be able to enjoy the qualities of the 21-year-old Brazilian in a position that was defined as a priority by Juninho and Sylvinho.
