Strong ties bind Jean-Michel Aulas, Florentino Pérez
"Florentino Pérez and I are very good friends and that always influences negotiations." In a recent feature interview with Spanish newspaper Marca, OL president Jean-Michel Aulas highlighted the positive ties that bind him to his Real Madrid counterpart. A relationship that both executives have been able to sustain in the challenging waters of European football, specifically with player transfers - as was the case once again last week.
Highly valued Ferland Mendy continued in the footsteps of three former Lyon players by making the move to los merengues. Mahamadou Diarra forged the original connection between the two clubs in 2006 before Karim Benzema followed suit 2009, as did Mariano Diaz last year. The transfer of the 24-year-old left-back was an opportunity for both presidents to reach another positive business agreement.
The Real Madrid president raved about Jean-Michel Aulas once the deal went through. As he does every time both clubs reach an agreement, Perez took advantage of Mendy's official presentation to salute his OL counterpart in front of the world press. "Ferland, you come to Madrid from a friendly club, a big club like Olympique Lyonnais. An example of management with its president."
