On Friday, club president Jean-Michel Aulas formalized the partnership with the "Pele Academia" football school, located in the city of Resende, near Rio de Janeiro.

As part of its international development, Olympique Lyonnais has formalized a partnership with the "Pelé Academia".
The club's first national project in Brazil involves a football academy opened in December 2018 and sponsored by Brazilian football legend Pelé, which for its part was eager to form a partnership with Olympique Lyonnais to benefit from its experience, expertise and international recognization as the second-best Academy in Europe behind only Real Madrid and ahead of FC Barcelona.

The "Pele Academia" will sponsor every year three groups of 30 youngsters each (U15, U17 and U20) who will undergo high-level training, both in the sporting and academic fields, as part of the "OL Academy" model.

Members of the Olympique Lyonnais technical staff will travel regularly to Resende to coordinate the training program and individually monitor the progress of the young trainees.

A few weeks after the appointments of Juninho (Sporting Director) and Sylvinho (Head Coach), this partnership further strengthens the club's historical ties to Brazil, whose players who've worn the Lyon jersey include the likes of Sonny Anderson, Edmilson, Caçapa, Juninho , Elber, Cree, Nilmar, Fred, Bastos and, in the current squad, Rafael, Marcelo and Marcal.

"I'm very happy with this partnership that brings OL back to Brazil. The "OL Academy" will bring its expertise to the "Pelé Academia", which will be open to all young Brazilians to allow them to benefit from high-level sports and educational training. At the same time, the "Pelé Academia" will operate in the favelas to be closer to young people and to promote their sporting and social integration.

I'm also very happy that the "Pele Academia" has the short-term goal of opening a women's section for young Brazilian girls."
Jean-Michel AULAS – President of Olympique Lyonnais
