Get to know new OL signing Héritier Bora Deyonge, a rising Belgian star
First the bad news: OL said farewell to Ferland Mendy, who left for Real Madrid this week, and in the process lost one of Europe's top left backs. Now the good news: they've secured the services of one of the world's top prospects in that position - Heritier Bora Deyonge, a 17-year-old international Belgian who's signed with the club's Academy.
By signing the player from PSV Eindhoven, the same club that Memphis Depay came out of, OL now have within their ranks one of the Netherlands' most highly touted prospects. An undisputed starter in the youth divisions with the Boeren, Deyonge has impressed under U17 assistant coach Wilfred Bouma and U19 manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, among others.
Extremely talented and powerful, with outstanding technique and able to quickly project forward along the left side or in the middle of the pitch, the Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve native has also caught the eye of Bob Browaeys. Belgium's U17 head coach called up OL's newest player at the beginning of the year to participate in the Development Cup, which was held in Minsk, Belarus, and during which Deyonge showed all the signs of his promise.
After winning the U17 Super Cup, as well as reaching the Cup semifinals and making the jump to PSV's U19s squad, Deyonge is ready to take the next leap in his career with Olympique Lyonnais.
