A stoppage-time goal from Jill Roord gave the Netherlands a 1-0 decision in their Group E opener at the Women's World Cup.

European champions the Netherlands needed a stoppage-time goal (90+2') from Jill Roord to beat New Zealand 1-0 Tuesday in their Women's World Cup debut. OL's Shanice van de Sanden played 87 minutes for the Dutch, who were by far the more aggressive of the two sides and got their reward just in time to sit atop first place in Group E alongside Canada, who topped Cameroon 1-0 a day earlier thanks to a lone goal from Lyon star Kadeisha Buchanan.
