Nîmes - OL : cet OL aura été renversant ! (2-3)

There was no pressure whatsoever, but plenty of pride at stake as Olympique Lyonnais closed out the 2018/19 L1 season at the Stade des Costières, site of Friday's dramatic 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Nîmes. Bruno Genesio's tenure as OL head coach ended with another fantastic win a week after a 4-0 home blowout result over Caen assured Les Gones third place in the standings and a trip to the next Champions League.

Despite the lack of urgency, Lyon's outgoing boss only made one change to his Starting XI: with Mathieu Gorgelin replacing the injured Anthony Lopes (ribs) between the sticks. Everything else remained unchanged, and Maxwel Cornet continued his torrid end-of-season form by opening the score early off a Memphis service into the box (6 ', 0-1). The tone was set right away. But after a nice save from  Gorgelin, Nimes, specifically striker Ripart, retaliated five minutes later (11 ', 1-1). The first period was open, with each side creating opportunities until the hosts finally took the lead in stoppage time . before the break. On a corner kick, Savanier set up Bobichon perfectly for the latter to break the deadlock (45+3'', 2-1).

The second period concluded just as the first did: with late drama. This time, however, it was OL making things happen, as Maxwel Cornet leveled the score by firing home with his right foot (89 ', 2-2) just seconds before Tanguy Ndombele tapped in Leo Dubois cross (90 + 1', 2-3 ) to turn things around in unexpected fashion. His first league goal and a last hurrah to remember for Bruno Genesio. So long, 2018/19...

Maxwel Cornet's brace

Maxwel Cornet finished this season just about as well as anybody could. With Friday's two-goal haul, the Ivorian striker was first involved in 12 goals in Ligue 1 Conforama this season (7 goals, 5 assists), including 11 in his last 10 games (6 goals, 5 assists) . Cornet also scored six goals in his last five matches.

Three and a half years after replacing Hubert Fournier in December 2015, Bruno Genesio coached his last match on the OL bench. He also took the opportunity to become the 3rd most capped coach in the history of the club with 185 matches, just barely surpassing Aimé Jacquet (183). Aimé Mignot (333) and Raymond Domenech (203) are the only ones with more appearances. The now-former Lyon manager finished with a record of 102 wins, 36 draws and 47 defeats.
