Summary

It wasn't a simple season, but the main objective has been accomplished; OL will be standing in the podium at the end of the season. In the penultimate day of Ligue 1 play, OL hosted Caen, who were desperately looking for points to fight off relegation. However, despite this, Bruno Genesio's men were able to secure a very convincing win at home. The game was Genesio's last home game at Lyon Groupama.

The win ensures OL will not only finish the season in 3rd place but also means the Lyonnais have earned a berth in the preliminary round of the UEFA Champions League next season.

As expected, the match was not an easy one, especially as Caen was fighting for their lives in the first division, however, OL was able to open up the scoring in the second half to secure the 4-0 win.

Despite a slow first half by the home team, which culminated in a missed penalty kick in the 28th minute by Dembélé, OL was able to move past the misfortunes of the first half and open up the scoring in the second half.

In the 49th minute, Memphis was able to break the deadlock to open up the gates for the OL attacking third the rest of the match. Five minutes after Memphis' strike, Terrier streaked down the left side of the pitch but had his shot ricocheted off the post right to Cornet who was able to tap it in to give the home side the 2-0 lead. In the 64th minute, it was Dembélé who put the nail on the coffin as he redeemed himself from his missed penalty earlier in the game to give OL the 3-0 lead. Not satisfied with the 3-0 lead, Lyon was able to muster one more goal in the 74th minute when in a quick counter-attack by the Lyonnais, Memphis was able to volley in a goal with one touch.

Match Fact

Cornet Saves the Match

Martin Terrier's ricocheted shot off the post fond the feet of Cornet at just the right time as he was able to get the shot past the keeper in what was a monumental moment in the match for OL who were looking for their breakthrough and were finally able to knock off the Normans after scoring two quick goals.

Stat of the Game

200

The Lyonnais have scored 200 goals at Groupama Stadium across all competitions. The feat came shortly after the start of the second half when Memphis opened the scoring. The offensive juggernaut of OL was huge this season, with 66 goals scored in Ligue 1 this season, OL ranks second just behind Paris Saint-Germain.

Analysis

"The players answered the call today. Our goals this season were are fulfilled after we were able to reach the Round of 16 of the Champions League. One of the biggest negatives this season was the loss to Rennes at home in the Coupe de France, but tonight was a well-deserved victory. "
