UWCL: One Day, One Title: 2016, Champions of Europe once again

2016 : After a match filled with emotion and suspense, OL once again are Champions of Europe
OL – WOLFSBOURG : 1-1 (4-3 a.e.t.)
Four years removed since their last Women’s Champion League championship, the Lyonnaises were once again able to reach the mountain top once again as they defeated Wolfsburg in penalties on May 26, 2016. Ada Hegerberg was able to quickly open up the score for OL in the 12th minute, but Alexandra Popp was able to equalize in the 88th minute to send the game to overtime.
Both teams were unable to find the back of the net in the overtime period and had to settle for a penalty shootout. Wolfsburg missed their last two penalties, and it was OL’s Saki Kumagai who was able to score the game-winning penalty kick to give the Lyonnaises their first title in four years and kickstart the start of a dynasty unlike any other.
