OL's Women's Coupe de France drought didn't last very long. After missing out on the trophy last season in controversial fashion against PSG, Lyon reclaimed the prize and made it eight titles overall Wednesday night with a 3-1 win over Lille. Unsurprisingly, the reigning French champions controlled the proceedings from the opening whistle in Châteauroux. Surprisingly, however, they failed to capitalize on their domination despite attempts from Bronze, Fishlock and Marozsan, who hit the post early on.
The deadlock was finally broken in the second half, on a free kick from Henry. That was just was was needed for Lyon to find their groove, as they doubled the score just seconds later on a van de Sanden header. The Lille ladies refused to surrender and pulled one back after a nice breakthrough and finish from Sarr. But Renard put everything in its right place in the waning minutes with a perfectly executed penalty kick that gave Lyon their second trophy of the season. There's one more up for grabs: the Women's Champions League, next Saturday in Budapest against Barcelona.
