Immersed in a three-game losing skid that left them out of the Coupe de France final, in danger of dropping out of third place in Ligue 1 Conforama and without a head coach at season's end, Lyon were in desperate need of a win Friday night at Groupama Stadium against Angers. Fortunately for Les Gones, things finally clicked as Memphis and Martin Terrier were on target in a 2-1 win that set them back on the right course.
Stuck in a drought of his own, Memphis found the back of the net in the 10th minute, finishing off a beautiful through ball from Houssem Aouar to score his first goal since March. Then it was in-form Terrier's (39 ', 2-0) turn to double the lead, again off a fantastic assist from Aouar. Lyon were in the driver's seat the entire match, but wasted chance after chance to put the game away in the second half. This almost cost them late in the game, when an errant pass from Lopes caused a Tousart (89 ', 2- 1) own-goal. The Groupama Stadium crowd - as well as manager Bruno Genesio - feared the worst, but there would be no more mistakes and three much-needed three points were secured.
