Nabil Fekir : « On a besoin des supporters, il faut qu’on avance ensemble »
Lyon's captain spoke to the media on Monday ahead of this week's Ligue 1 Conforama clash against Angers.

Nabil, how did the team react to the coach's decision to step down after this season?

That kind of news is never good. He's been the coach here for over three years. He gave his all. He thought it was time to leave. There is a bit of disappointment in the group. It's his decision, it must be respected. We still have six games left to give everything and win as many games as possible.

How is the squad approaching the end of the season?

We're going through a tough period right now. Everyone has to lift up their heads and get back to work. There aren't many matches left. We've had a good season overall, so let's not ruin everything  in these last games.

Are you taking on a special role during this difficult time?

Yes. My job is to remobilize my teammates... There are quality players. I trust them, I trust in the squad. I hope it's a good end of the season for us.

Despite the last two defeats, OL are still in the race for the Champions League…

We still control out destiny for the main goal to finish on the podium and qualify for the Champions League next season. Lille have taken a step ahead of us. Third place needs to be insured and why not go for second place? You never know, there are still six matches left. Nothing is decided. Our matches against Lille and Marseille can play in our favor. Everyone has to give their all and put their heads together.

What's the team sentiment ahead of Friday's game against Angers at Groupama Stadium?

It's positive. This period has been far from simple, but we remain confident in ourselves and we're sticking together. Friday's game against Angers is very important. We must redeem ourselves in front of our fans. We've lost two in a row, which is not common for OL. I hope we play a great match on Friday night. We're still three points ahead of Saint-Etienne, we must maintain this lead and get as close to Lille as possible.

Do you have any message for the fans?

I understand their disappointment, it's normal. But to whistle and root against us, I don't think that's the best thing to do. The fans have to  continue coming to the stadium. They have to be with us, support us, push us forward. We need them, especially in these moments. It's important for the team. We're all in the same boat. We have to move forward together. "
