UWCL: Wolfsburg among European football elite
Despite losing last season's Women's Champions League final to Olympique Lyonnais, VfL Wolfsburg have the highest club coefficient in UEFA's rankings, ahead of OL and PSG. A true sign of the team's stability at every level since making their UWCL debut in the 2012-2013 season, with a victory (1-0) in the final over Lyon.
German league champions in 2013, 2014, 2017 and 2018, as well as German Cup winners in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018, Wolfsburg are once again in the running for taking home all domestic silverware this season. The Lady-Wolves qualified for the "Pokal" semifinals last Wednesday by eliminating Turbin Potsdam (4-0). In the Frauen-Bundesliga, the fight is fierce with Bayern Munich, who beat Stephan Lerch's squad 4-2 a few weeks ago. The two German representatives in the Women's Champions League are tied for first place, with Wolfsburg ahead on goal difference.
The club recently re-signed veteran Anna Blässe and Danish teammate Pernille Harder, voted UEFA's best player last season. German national team star Svenja Huth has also agreed to terms to sign play for Wolfsburg next season.
