 THE MATCH

Lyon got back to winning ways in Ligue 1 Conforama, edging out Guingamp 2-1 Friday night at Groupama Stadium with a pair of stunning first-half goals from Martin Terrier and Nabil Fekir. In their last test ahead of Tuesday's Champions League Round of 16 opening leg versus Barcelona, Les Gones took all three points despite trailing off in the final moments of a match that was much closer than it should've been.

Things got off to a solid start for Lyon, who took the lead in the 15th minute thanks to Terrier, who pounced on a rebound after Houssem Aouar's rocket from distance was only partially blocked by Caillard in goal. The hosts were in complete control, but one defensive lapse allowed the visitors to level the score just five minutes later when an unmarked Eboa Eboa headed a corner kick into the back of the net in Guingamp's only real chance of the game up until that point. Fortunately, Fekir - who's suspended for the opening showdown with Barcelona - put things back in their place ten minutes before the break with a spectacular, curling finish.

It should've been smooth sailing from that point on, but OL failed to land the knockout blow against an opponent that almost escaped with a draw - but the crossbar denied Roux's apparent equalizer in stoppage time. Far from a perfect performance, but plenty to build on with an amazing European night just around the corner for Les Gones.
