Jean-Michel Aulas : « L'OL n’a pas besoin de vendre pour bien vivre »
The president of OL Groupe highlighted the club's health Wednesday during the presentation of the half-yearly accounts to the financial markets in Paris. He also reaffirmed his short-term desire to build a multifunctional venue within OL City.

Balance sheet: best results in a semester

"The accounts for the first half of 2018-2019 are excellent and show growth in all areas: EBITDA reached 53.9 million euros in the first half of the year and operating income was 26.3 million euros. Turnover was up 14% to 168.4 million euros. It's a brilliant semester with results that had never been recorded by our club during this period.

This is the result of our ambitious policy, particularly in terms of ticketing (second-highest attendance in Ligue 1, behind OM and ahead of PSG). TV rights also continue to rise and there's still more to come with the arrival of MediaPro, which should generate 30 million euros in revenue. Thanks to Groupama Stadium, the partnership and event lines are also growing strongly. It should not be forgotten that the transfer of players between last July and August (Mariano to Real Madrid and Myziane Maolida to OGC Nice) contributed to this result."

Development of a five-year strategic plan: "Full Entertainment"

"This should enable us to generate 400 million euros of turnover and thus join the ranks of the top 20 most successful European clubs. With the arrival of the leisure center at OL City, we're aiming for an on-site annual attendance of 2 to 3 million people."

OL City

"The multifunction arena project is moving forward. This new venue can accommodate between 10,000 and 15,000 people, depending on sporting and cultural events. We're giving ourselves between two to three years for it to be operational. OL has the know-how and the financial means, so we would like to be able to present the project before next summer. We'll also determine the site's location and for this we're meeting with elected officials from Décines and Meyzieu. There have also been many discussions with Tony Parker and we are thinking about synergies with ASVEL.

Regarding access to OL City, we've confirmed the establishment of an automated shuttle link with the Grand Large station from June, which will improve daily service. SYTRAL has also launched a study for OL City's permanent connection to the Carré de Soie station via the Tram T3."

Workforce: a record market value of 476 million

"We can also welcome the valuation of our players with an estimated market value of 476.1 million, the equivalent of eight to 10 years of participation in the Champions League. This reflects our ability to train players at our Academy, but also to give added value to those we bought. This shows the quality work of Bruno Genesio and his staff, who know how to value the players of the workforce. The Board of Directors has also praised his work in this area. Today, Olympique Lyonnais do not need to sell in order to flourish."

Transfers

"We know that we will be approached by very rich clubs over the summer. Half of our workforce is being scouted, but we will limit ourselves to one or two players leaving. We want to progress and win titles in France and continue to climb the European hierarchy. This is part of our five-year plan to join the European Top 10 on a sporting level.

As for contract extensions, we took note Monday at the management committee that the decision on the extension of Bruno Genesio would be taken at the end of March at the latest. We are also in negotiations with Nabil Fekir and Anthony Lopes."

Champions League

"This Friday we play a tough match against Guingamp because it's scheduled just before the Champions League Round of 16 tie against FC Barcelona. I trust Bruno and the players to appreciate the importance of this crucial meeting for the goals of the club. I congratulated Paris Saint-Germain for their performance on Tuesday against Manchester United. This proves the quality of our football. I'm thankful for Kylian Mbappé...even though he didn't choose the right training academy when he was younger (laughs), I have a lot of affection for him. He is an outstanding footballer and the future best player in the world."
