Unbeaten in seven games and winners of their last five matches in all competitions, Olympique Lyonnais had everything going for them ahead of Sunday night's visit to Nice. But their confidence wasn't enough against a plucky opponent that made the most of some good fortune to secure a 1-0 victory on Rémi Walter's 69th-minute penalty.
Lyon were by far the most dangerous of the two sides, but were seriously inefficient in front of the net and saw a pair of apparent goals (Traoré and Fekir) waved off due to offside calls.
Things weren't much better in the second half, offensively speaking, with Dembélé rattling the post with a header (58') when Lyon finally looked poised to take a deserved lead. OL's wasteful ways finally caught up with them late in the second half. After VAR review, the ref awarded Nice a penalty for a Ndombele foul on Ganago, and Walter sent Anthony Lopes the wrong way from the spot... Despite additional chances to at least salvage a draw - most notably a 1v1 that Memphis couldn't put away - Les Gones were unable to get anything out of their trip to the Allianz Riviera.
. THE STAT .
All good things come to an end - like OL's unbeaten streak on the road. Bruno Genesio's men had gone 13 matches (eight wins and five draws) without a loss away from home in all competitions before Sunday night's setback. The last time they fell on the road? October 7, 2018 in a 5-0 defeat to PSG.
