Derby Déjà vu: Moussa Dembélé's late winner recalls Jimmy Briand's heroics

Lyon won the 118th Rhone derby 2-1 thanks to a stoppage-time header from Dembélé that was eerily similar to Briand's strike from 2013 at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

Romain Hamouma's 21st minute opener in Sunday's Rhone derby assured us that we wouldn't see another OL blowout win at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in their first game back at Saint-Etienne's home ground since the now-legendary 5-0 victory on November 5, 2017. Instead, a more distant memory was stirred when Moussa Dembélé scored the dramatic, 2-1 game-winner for Les Gones in stoppage time  

 

The summer signing from Celtic sealed his status in club lore with a last-gasp header that immediately reminded fans of Jimmy Briand, who also headed home a 2-1 game-winner in extra time for Lyon at Saint-Etienne on November 10, 2013. 

The timing, the score, the technique... both French strikers scored eerily similar goals that allowed OL to escape with all three points from the Geoffroy-Guichard, where late heroics also came from Sidney Govou (2004), Karim Benzema (2008) in years past...
