Bruno Genesio : « certainement l’affiche la plus excitante de la saison »
Lyon's coach hosted a pre-match press conference ahead of the 117th derby vs. Saint-Etienne.

Injury report

Everyone is operational except for Amine Gouiri, Léo Dubois, who are injured, and Jérémy Morel, who's suspended.

Tactical options

There are two possibilities: maintain the current system or to go back to four defenders in the back. In the first case, there are solutions to replace Jeremy Morel, like Kenny Tete or Oumar Solet. Oumar understands the requirements of playing at the highest level and is close to being part of the squad.

The international break

We didn't do enough tactical work during the break. It's always positive when players come back with good individual and collective performances. There were the performances of Ferland (Mendy) and Tanguy (Ndombele) with Les Blues. I was delighted to see Ferland play so well defensively. It's an additional dynamic for them, as it is for Kenny (Tete) and Memphis, who qualified [to the Nations League final] with the Netherlands to the detriment of France. Lucas (Tousart) and Martin (Terrier) were able to play with the France U21s. Bertrand (Traoré) and Maxwel (Cornet) returned earlier than usual. In terms of recovery, it's not a problem. Only the U19s returned as late as Wednesday night.

The derby

A derby is always a derby. It's different from any other match. There are two sides ready to do battle... There will be passion both on the pitch and in the stands. It's not wise to make statements before the game. Jean-Louis (Gasset) is doing a great job at Saint-Etienne. His words touched me. I would like to see the balance sheet for almost three years. This doesn't mean that everything is perfect or that I'm fooled about the quality of the game sometimes. We are favorites on paper, now we have to show it on the pitch. It will be difficult... This is the first in a long string of matches for us.

Saint-Etienne

It's a club that worked well in the offseason. They made very smart signings. It's a well structured team, consistent, with character and among the top seven in French. Cabella and Khazri are decisive players. In the middle, M'Vila and Selnaes are very influential in games. It's a balanced team, able to both defend well and produce offensively. If injuries aren't a problem, without having to play a European, they can be a leading team [this season]. Football is a party. A party without fans isn't a real party.

A crucial week ahead

We can qualify [for the Champions League knockout stages] Tuesday night. In the league, nothing will be final but we can position ourselves at the top of the table. I would like to win something this season with OL.
