In search of a win that would put them on the verge of qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages, OL welcomed Hoffenheim to Groupama Stadium a few weeks after playing to a wild 3-3 draw in Germany in the first leg. Playing with a 3-5-2 formation, Lyon looked intent on making it a more one-sided affair Wednesday night by taking a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Nabil Fekir (19 ', 1- 0) and and Tanguy Ndombele (28 ', 2-0), as well as some timely saves by goalkeeper Anthony Lopes.

The three points looked all but assured when Nuhu (51') was sent off after receiving his second yellow card of the match and Hoffenheim went down to 10 men. Jason Denayer, because of the offside flag (52 '), Fekir (54') and Ndombele (54' and 57') all missed chances to put the game away, while the visitors were suddenly brought back to life by Kramaric (65 ', 2-1). Suddenly under pressure, Lopes was once again called upon in goal, but Fekir (73') and later Memphis (81') also wasted golden opportunities. They'd end up paying dearly, as Kaderabek salvaged a last-gasp point for Hoffenheim by scoring the equalizer in the second minute of extra time.

European football suits Tanguy Ndombele, who once against impressed in Lyon's midfield against Hoffenheim. His solid performance was rewarded with a another goal against the German side, his second in the Champions League in just four matches. This was Ndombele's third European goal, after also finding the back of the net against Villarreal in last season's Europa League. He has yet to score in Ligue 1.
