Back in action after a two-week break, OL visited Normandy Saturday evening for the first of seven games in 23 days. Bruno Genesio's men were keen on turning things around after their 1-0 home loss to Nice before the international recess, but struggled to create any real danger for Caen during the opening 45 minutes. Fortunately, a moment of inspiration from Nabil Fekir helped the visitors take the lead right before the break (45', 0-1) thanks to a masterful free kick from the captain.
The home side was quick to react in the second half, as Claudio Beauvue scored the equalizer (53', 1-1) from the penalty spot. OL caught a break shortly after when Djiku saw a straight red for a high-leg challenge on Fekir. With an extra man on the pitch, Lyon threw bodies in attack to take the lead, only for Prince Oniangué to surprise them with a header off a set piece (73', 2-1). Down but not out, Les Gones eked out a point after Ferland Mendy scored with one minute remaining on the clock. Not the greatest result, but it could've been far worse considering their upcoming Champions League debut on Wednesday at Manchester City.
Ferland Mendy to the rescue
The Lyon left back went through a roller coaster of emotions on Saturday. After flirting with a red by committing a penalty on Claudio Beauvue while already in the books with a yellow card, he was allowed to stay on the pitch by the referee. This would prove decisive, as Mendy would salvage a point for OL a minute from time.
