Reynald Pedros left nothing to chance for OL’s Women’s Champions League debut. Despite the team’s packed schedule, the head coach used his “A” squad Wednesday as Lyon pulled out a 2-0 win over Avaldsnes in the Round of 32 away leg. As expected, the three-time defending champs dominating from the opening whistle against a defensive opponent. But, between the crossbar (which stopped Renard’s header from going in) and Johansen in goal, the home side weathered the OL onslaught in the first half.

This resistance could only last so much, and the visitors finally opened the score five minutes after the break thanks to Henry. It was far from a laugher, however, as Lyon were only able to add a second insurance goal through Majri with a little less than a quarter of an hour to play. While far from the offensive display that OL are capable of producing, a positive result ahead of the September 27 return leg at the Groupama OL Training Center.
