Jason Denayer : "I'm excited to start this adventure"
"We wanted to sign a central defender. I'm very happy that he's been with us since Monday. We signed him with the idea of using him as a central defender The opportunity arose this year. It's the result of time, patience, perseverance. We made an effort for him a few seasons ago. He really fits the profile of the player we were looking for. It's not necessary to sign another player. Maxwel Cornet is part of the squad today. My wish is to keep him.
"We've known about him for quite some time now. He'd been on my radar for a good number of years. I knew him from when he was with the City reserve team... Now was the time. Doors opened quite naturally this season. We had a quick chat with City. I thank them. This is an important moment in his career. He is only 23 years old. He has all the tools needed to return to the national team. He has strength, he's fast. He is a player who's very calm under pressure. The fact that he has gone out on loan so much is something good because it allowed him to play regularly. He has put together a lot of experience. Today we have a more complete player.
"My interest in joining Lyon doesn't date from today. It was something I'd had in mind for several years. The staff knows my weaknesses and my strengths. They really know me. I have athletic qualities, I'm good with the ball at my feet. I had apprenticeships of all kinds of levels in my different loan spells. After four years, it was time to find something stable. OL are a club with a lot of visibility. It's important to return to the national team. I feel comfortable on both sides of central defense. I'm ready to start. I'm excited to start this adventure."
