Bruno Genesio: "Nabil Fekir is ready to have a great season for us"
I spoke with Jason Denayer. He is ready and will be in the squad on Friday. Nabil Fekir is fine, he is good to go and ready to start on Friday. Fernando Marçal is still recovering and Amine Gouiri is now injured. He'll have surgery within the next ten days.
Last week's setback vs. Reims and looking forward to Strasbourg
We need to react. Lots of things were missing: speed, pressuring the opposing defense, attacking, taking risks. Nabil can bring all of this for us. We focused on all of this during the week, on what we should do better against defensive teams. We have to do more in the final third. We worked a lot on offensive movements. When you play against a static team, you must take the initiative. I don't know what kind of game it will be on Friday, but we think it could be similar [to Reims]. It's up to us to find the solutions.
He's ready to start the match and play at least an hour of high quality football. It was better to take our time time with him even though we all would've liked to have him right away. Physically he wasn't ready. It's never easy, but he managed to get over the disappointment of his failed transfer to Liverpool. He is in Lyon, he's at home, he's the captain of a team that's playing the Champions League. This season can be very important for Nabil. There's nothing in his attitude to suggest that he will not play the same role he did last year. He's the same now as he was then... It's up to him to have a great season and be rewarded as a result.
I want to highlight Mathieu Gorgelin's good performances. He has fulfilled his role. The return of Anthony Lopes is important. He also has a leadership role in the group. He's a big personality. He's been impatient, but in a good way. He knew how to take lessons from his experiences last season. I took a weight off of him and did him a favor [by naming Marcelo vice captain]. He understood perfectly. It was a very frank discussion. These are things that will allow him to go one step further.
