OL played hard but lacked execution Friday night at the Stade Auguste Delaune and fell 1-0 to a more clinical Reims side that made the most of their few chances to secure all three points in front of their home side. Still without captain Nabil Fekir, Lyon coach Bruno Genesio made no changes to the team that kicked off their Ligue 1 Conforma season with a 2-0 win over Amiens last Sunday. And just like in the opening match day, Les Gones controlled possession of the ball and created the bulk of the early chances. Unfortunately, none of them were enough to put goalkeeper Edouard Mendy in real danger. Meanwhile, Pablo Chavarria was less forgiving as the visitors and gave the home team the lead on a 32nd-minute header.
Thwarted by the tactical discipline of their opponent, Memphis and company tried to turn things around in the second half, but the increased offensive pressure didn't lead to real chances on goal. Maxwel Cornet and Martin Terrier came on as substitutes to help spur OL's attack - to no avail as the team's lack of finishing continued to plague them throughout the final 45 minutes. In the end, a first setback of the season for Lyon, who'll have two straight Friday night meetings at home - against Strasbourg and Nice - to redeem themselves.
