OL finished their preseason campaign Tuesday night in London against Chelsea. A final test before the "real" games begin on Sunday in Match Day 1 of Ligue 1 Conforama against Amiens. For this final tune-up, Bruno Genesio played his projected starters in a 4-3-3 formation, with Mariano leading the attack, accompanied by Memphis and Bertrand Traoré, Dubois on the right flank, and Lopes - who's suspended for the season's opening matches and will be replaced by Gorgelin - in goal. OL started well, creating several situations (5 ', 7', 26 ', 32' and 35') but lacking the finishing touch. Meanwhile, their only true defensive scare of the first half came in the form of a Willian free kick just before the break (45 ').

Chelsea looked the better of the two sides in the early stages of the second half, with Lyon showing tired legs and getting fewer looks at goal. Loftus-Cheek hit the post (55') for the home side and his teammates tested Lopes, who was up to the challenge and kept the ball out of his net (56' and 63 '). Between fatigue and the numerous substitutions made by both teams, the rhythm of the match noticeably fell in the waning moments, which led to a penalty shootout that the Blues won by a 5-4 score. Despite the result, the overall balance of OL's preseason is extremely positive. By putting in good performances against strong opposition, Lyon have reason to be excited for the upcoming campaign.
