A weekend in Ligue 1
With the point taken from the 2-2 home draw with Saint-Étienne, there were mixed feelings regarding OL's first place on the ladder at the end of the weekend. On one hand, Les Lyonnais further cemented their second place on the ladder, as the chasing pack failed to win: Marseille lost for the third time in a row, 1-0 to Nantes, Monaco did little better with their 1-1 draw with Rennes, while Bordeaux went down 2-0 to Lille. The results all went Lyon's way in the quest for a top two finish. OL are now 6 points ahead of Monaco in third... On the other hand, Paris' 3-1 victory over Nice means Lyon have one less option on the title, especially as Paris still have a game in hand... The two sides are currently tied on 65 points, with Les Lyonnais ahead of Paris on goal difference...
But Lyon weren't the only side to take advantage of the other poor results near the top of the table. Montpellier, thanks to their 1-0 victory over Caen, and Lille, who beat Bordeaux for their 6th win in seven matches, can still dream of that sixth place that could become European if Paris win the Coupe de France.
Week 33 was also crucial one at the other end of the table with Toulouse and Reims the big winners. The TFC beat Lorient 1-0 to move out of the relegation zone and up to 15th place, 3 points above the FCL who are now in 18th… It's a similar situation for Reims, who defeated Bastia 2-1… Evian dropped two spots after their draw with Guingamp who are now just 5 points abive the danger zone…
Finally, the last chance match between Metz and Lens saw Les Messins win 3-1. Albert Cartier's men can still dream of staying up… Not really the case for Les Sangs et Or.
