A weekend in Ligue 1
L1 has a new pilot at the helm. Thanks to a ninth win in a row at the Stade de Gerland, a comfortable 3-0 victory over Toulouse, Les Lyonnais now sit in pole position. Since Week 4 when they found themselves 17th, OL has won 12, drawn 3 and lost just once, picking up a +27 goal difference along the way! And incredible climb to the top!
During the same period, the other two leaders of the championship have had a few bumps along the way. Leaders since Week 6, Les Marseillais were beaten by Montpellier (2-1), after a first 2-0 loss to the MHSC this season. Now a point behind OL, it was OM's fifth consecutive away match without victory in the league, including four defeats. For 25 minutes, it looked as though the real PSG as finally back... before it all fell apart again. The result? After leading 2-0, Bastia scored four unanswered goals to win 4-2 and send Paris tumbling out of the top 3.
And it's Saint-Etienne, quietly but surely, who have taken full advantage. Undefeated in 11 matches, Les Verts continued their ascension with a fifth away win against Reims (1-2). Monégasques and Bordelais played out a scoreless draw on Le Rocher, to remain 5 and 6 points behind Paris, respectively. Nantes weren't any better, held 0-0 at home by Metz. It's the third scoreless draw in a row at the Stade de La Beaujoire.
OGC Nice have finally won at home again. Les Niçois defeated FC Lorient 3-1 at the Allianz Rviera... something that hadn't happened since late September... LOSC don't have such problems. The third best home team in the land picked up their sixth home win, against Caen (1-0). Les Caennais are bottom of the league, five points from their closest rival and the safety zone. Guingamp are the best team in France over the last five matches... thanks to a fourth win during that period, against Lens (2-0). The point picked up against Rennes (1-1) wasn't enough to help Evian out of the relegation zone, due to an inferior goal difference compared to Metz and Lorient.
