2014 in Review: August

Injury upon injury, elimination from Europe and a bad start in the league… Nothing came easily for Les Lyonnais in August...

The job had more or less been done a week earlier. Les Lyonnais could start August without too much stress. But the return match against Mlada Boleslav was tougher than expected and ended with a narrow victory and two injuries…

The tone had been set with two matches per week to start the season. After the European commitments, it was back to action on the domestic scene with the visit of Rennes. It was another win, but also another injury… Fekir this time. Lacazette opened his personal account for the season.

The injuries kept coming (Fekir, Bedimo, Umtiti, Bisevac...) the early preseason obligations were hard on the players and the things were only beginning... OL lost to Toulouse, but Les Lyonnais have always struggled away to the TFC, before losing to Astra in the Europa League and then Lens... Three losses in a row, including two at home... the side was clearly out of form...

The team needed to bounce back, or risked being ejected from the European scene prematurely… Les Lyonnais did bounce back away to Astra in Romania...but not enough to make up for the first leg deficit. The 1-0 victory wasn't enough... A massive disappointment...

And it wasn't the trip to Metz that was going to heal the wounds that were still gaping since last Thursday... After eight matches in August, the Lyon players stumbled across the line, throwing away a 1-0 lead in the final minutes… The international break came at just the right time!
