November saw a real improvement on the preceding months. Over 30 days, Les Lyonnais defeated Guingamp, recorded a legendary win in the derby and qualified in the Europa League.

Was the serious injury to Anthony Lopes suffered against Guingamp a sign that the negative spiral was continuing? After another very difficult month, Les Lyonnais needed to bounce back as quickly as possible. In total control throughout, they won 2-0 against their Brittany opponents. It was victory that did wonders for the morale, just a few days before a derby played against a backdrop of incredible tension.

But before then, the side needed at least a point away to Rijeka to continue their European run. Mission accomplished (1-1) with a largely second-string XI as Rémi Garde took the gamble of resting his stars before the trip to the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard. Obviously, the results proved his decision correct. Just a few hours after returning from Croatia, the players answered the call…

It took until the final seconds to find a winner in a fiercely competitive derby. Neither side had made the difference in the first 93 minutes... But a raging header from Jimmy Briand gave Ruffier no chance and froze Le Chaudron (0-1). It was a hugely important victory, both in terms of the league ladder, but also psychologically. But the euphoria could not be profited from immediately as a two week international break followed...

Les Olympiens failed to go on with things. Les Valenciennois came back and denied the team two more points... two more points dropped at the Stade de Gerland against a team sitting low on the table (1-1). Still struggling in Ligue 1, OL qualified for the last-32 of the Europa League with a victory over Betis Seville (1-0). The European future was assured...
