OL get the job done

Clinical from two corners, OL managed a win despite struggling at times against a feisty Troyes side... OL top the table...

There were divergent ambitions between Troyes and Lyon; the former were in dire need of points in their battle to beat the drop, while the latter were lookingto bounce back after their shock Coupe de France elimination at the hands of Epinal, knowing that a win would be very good business in terms of their ranking following PSG's surprise draw with Ajaccio. Rémi Garde welcomed back Lovren, Umtiti, Lacazette and Gourcuff, opting to start with a 4-4-2 formation to start.

Darbion had the first chance of the match (4') but saw his effort stopped by the excellent Vercoutre, who kept up the good work on two corners that followed. However, it was OL who struck first, Bastos unleashing a trademark missile of a free kick that was turned away. Malbranque took the resulting corner and found captain Gonalons (11'), who headed home powerfully to open the scoring. Lisandro was denied by the excellent Thuram (22') as he looked certain to score the side's second. Straight away, Vercoutre pulled out an unbelievable point-blank save before Troyes missed an 'unmissable' chance! A very lively match...

The final 15 minutes of the first half were less precise, but Nivet still managed a magical volley from a Fuassurier cross to level the scores (38') after OL had lost possession in midfield. A remarkable and deserved goal. Ol struggled against a very attacking Troyes outfit, who had another solid chance after a free kick (42'). While OL had controlled the beginning of the half, the end was all Troyes. Goalscorer Gonalons was left limping after twisting his ankle...

Nivet once again had Vercoutre in a cold sweat after a remarkable team move (47'); ESTAC had come out for the second half with the same intentions. OL were all over the place and struggled to link up. On the hour mark, Rémi Garde re-jigged his approach, switching to a three-man midfield, with Fofana in place of Gomis and Lacazette replacing Ghezzal. Malbranque, injured in a clash, was replaced by Mvuemba.

OL got things under control by playing higher up the pitch. Umtiti took back the lead for OLas he headed home a corner. Things got easier for OL as they headed for the win and top spot on the table. Three points in Troyes - even though OL struggled... and failed to convince... but whatever the manner, OL clinched the win to get back on track, despite a late barrage from Troyes that included headers from Marcos and Bettiol.
