OL reserves Champions!
For the seventh time in its history Lyon have been crowned reserve champions of France. This Friday OL went and won their title by defeating Le Mans 2-1.
OL started the encounter well creating great opportunities from the outset and then logically opening the scoring in the 15th minute through Maxime Blanc. The Lyon midfielder took advantage of a service from Enzo Reale to deceive the Le Mans goalkeeper with a left footed curling shot. Despite this opening goal, Lyon were finally caught a few minutes later. After a save from Théo Defourny, Le Mans took advantage of a corner to equalize through Djeddou (28’). Lyon had resources though and proved it less than a minute later by winning a corner. Novillo found Yattara and Lyon took the lead once again. The score would not change before the break. 2-1 for Lyon.
The start of the last 45 minutes was marked by the entry of Ishak Belfodil. Le Mans, who won against Metz in stoppage time during the week, would push on and create the best chances, but Théo Defourny would perform miracles in the Lyon goal. Les Gones would retain their lead until the final whistle.
It is a great pleasure to win this trophy with this generation. This victory is the result of the work put in by the youngsters who have been in constant progression throughout the season. I would like to thank Bernard Lacombe who accompanied us and salute Robert Valletta and André Vanesse who experienced their last game with us.
I wanted to continue this adventure to the end with the team even if I have the under 20’s World Cup in a few days. It’s a real honour to be captain of this team. We all want to dedicate this victory to André Vanesse and Robert Valletta.
