France - Mexico (0-2): Lloris above everyone, Toulalan suspended
If the OL keeper managed to keep his side in the match for long periods of time, the defeat at the hands of Mexico cost Toulalan dearly, he will be suspended for the game against South Africa.
France’s second match of the competition turned into a veritable nightmare. At the end of the day a 2-0 defeat to Mexico and the prospect of a qualification to the last 16 slipping away almost definitively.
Hugo Lloris slowed down the inevitable and could do nothing for the two Mexican goals. The Olympique Lyonnais keeper almost pushed away the 79th minute penalty from Blanco. Lloris had already conceded, 15 minutes earlier, in a duel perfectly negotiated by Hernandez.
Jérémy Toulalan also played the full ninety minutes of the encounter. The OL midfielder picked up a yellow card after an obstruction on Franco in first half stoppage time. Already sanctioned against Uruguay, Toulalan will miss the third and final group stage match next Tuesday against South Africa.
Sidney Govou played for 70 minutes before being replaced by Mathieu Valbuena. The evening was once again difficult for the OL forward who, like the rest of the French attack, was unable to break through the Aztec defence.
Once more, Anthony Réveillère had to content himself with a place on the bench alongside the former OL players Sébastien Squillaci and Alou Diarra.
