Round 33 in the League

Published on 10 April 2008 at 11:55 AM
This week sees Round 33 in the League. The 10 games are all very interesting especially at the bottom end of the table where Monaco meet Toulouse. PSG will play at home against Nice hoping that their opponents in the relegation battle will be slipping up as all are playing away from home..
Le Mans are still in with a chance of making Europe despite their poor result against St. Etienne. Auxerre lost at home but a good result away to Le Mans would bring them closer to safety. Lille, the drawn game merchants, have a chance of climbing up the table. Nancy and their iron curtain defence are looking at Marseille in the rearview mirror. Nanacy don’t want to give up their place on the podium.

Lorient can also step a little closer to Europe. Lens are in a lot more trouble since their defeat to St-Etienne. This game is between the worst attack in L1 (Lorient) and one of the worst defences (Lens). Metz will entertain OM. This will be a good test for them before their trip to Lyon in the Coupe de France. L’OM are hungry for more after their success against the 6 times French champions. OM are desperate for 3rd place synonymous of a place in the Champions League.

Monaco – Toulouse ? The match each team must win, or at least not lose. Monaco got back to winning ways against Strasbourg. A little extra effort and they will be safe. Things seem a bit more complicated for Toulouse, especially if they lose the game. Sochaux are hoping to continue their great run of 8 consecutive games without defeat, thanks to their solid defence. St-Etienne are back on form. They are now looking for a European spot with Gomis absolutely on fire.

Valenciennes are looking for a reaction. They have lost 2 games in a row and are not totally safe just yet. Strasbourg have lost the last 7! The Alsatians are in the relegation zone. Can they get out? Bordeaux took 3 points against Rennes. They still have some hope of winning the League and have maintened their advantage over Nancy. Caen have turned things around. The Normans have done enough hardwork to stay in the L1.

PSG have their backs to the wall. If they want to stay up they have to win their games at the Parc des Princes. Nice have not been doing too well recently, but have not yet given up on a European spot.
