Reactions after OL’s victory over FC Lorient...
Patrice Bergues: It’s a long time since we’ve tasted victory, and it feels good. Lorient showed us their worth and justified their place on the table by keeping us on our toes all night.
It’ll take some time for the wounds of January to heal. Tonight we turned it around with strong desire and a good result.
The President gave us his support. His words did us good and lifted our heads. We’re really pleased to be back on the front foot now.
Claudio? He is well loved by his squad and his team-mates. He reassures everyone with his professionalism in this type of match. It was tough to make a comeback in a key match like this one. He helped the team kick-start itself again and get back on track. What a captain.

Gilles Rousset: It was an almost ideal start to the match: we provoked, we stayed in their half, we scored quickly against a good team with a lot of talent and qualities. OL is still getting back to its best, but tonight, we got the 3 points. We would have taken 1-0 before the match, so it’s a good result. It was well-executed and does our frame of mind no end of good.

Gérard Houllier: We hadn’t won since December 17 at Lens. Some wins feel better than others and that’s the case tonight. I’m proud of my players who showed a lot of commitment and character. Through discipline and determination, we managed not to concede.
January has made us tougher. We don’t want to go through something like that again. Tonight’s result will help us a lot and give us confidence. But I know there is a lot of work left to do to become Champions… a lot of work.

André-Pierre Gignac (Lorient striker): We’re frustrated with the result. When OL scores first, it’s always much tougher for the opposition. We beat ourselves by creating chances and not taking them. All season we have played our own game and produced some beautiful football. We can’t be perfect everywhere.
The terrible pitch took a lot out of both sides physically.
Fred’s goal? Back to goal at 35 metres, he turns and shoots first time… he really is a great striker.

Sébastien Squillaci: That feels good. Tonight, we rolled up our sleeves, we stuck together and we got the 3 points. We got our positive dynamic back but we have to keep working hard to keep it.
We started the match well then we pulled back somewhat but still it was a good team effort. Before going to Lille an Rome, it’s good for the confidence to have a win. Only winning makes you confident.

Rémy Riou: I’m happy to have come here; it’s a pleasure to come to Gerland. We lost, so we can’t really feel good. I think that tonight we deserved a bit more.
At Lorient, there are some great lads and a good team spirit. It’s going really well.

Claudio Caçapa: 3 points, that’s great. It was important to win. The other good news is that we kept a clean sheet. I hope we can keep that up.
Mentally, I’m still there, I haven’t slipped. In the life of a footballer, there are always highs and lows. I knew the coach was going to need me. And today I showed that I was there. I wanted to stay on to the end, I didn’t want to go off despite the cramping in my calf.

Fabio Santos: As the President said to me, I’m unbeaten with OL. Tonight we had some luck, we had a chance and we took it.
I felt good tonight but I also discovered that the French league is slower than in Brazil, but more tactical.
The team has been very welcoming but I have to keep working hard.
AS Roma will be a tough match, and a very important one. We want to make history at this club, and history is made in this kind of match.
