23 will make the trip to the Basque country. Carew, ill, and Hartock, knee surgery, will be the only absentees…
The Squad: Coupet, Vercoutre – Abidal, Berthod, Cacapa, Clerc, Cris, Müller, Réveillère, Squillaci – Diarra, Juninho, Källström, Tiago, Toulalan – Ben Arfa, Benzema, Bettiol, Fred, Govou, Malouda, Rémy, Wiltord.

Gérard Houllier:

What are your goals for this training camp?
“Just like the one we held at Châteauroux before the game in Nantes, the goal is to reactivate, refresh the basic principles of the way the team plays and get the team’s blood pumping so we can achieve the objectives we have set out for ourselves in the second half of the season. But first of all, it will prepare us for the Bayonne match.”

This match against Bayonne?
“Bayonne is a Cup team and will play above itself for this match. We are taking this match very seriously. We have examined the team and discussed it in our squad. The pitch? We will adapt to any situation, there is no way we will look to make excuses. We are joining our 4th competition of the season and we want to go as far as we can. This competition is, historically, very important to the club, just behind the league, even if I myself have a soft spot for the Coupe de la Ligue.”

A word on the squad?
“We will have a cycle of 7 possible matches in January, and all of them are important. We have worked hard since Tuesday and will continue to work hard. 18 of our 23 players will be in the squad for the Bayonne game, and there is always a difference in form among the players. Fred, Benzema and Wiltord can play; they are ready. Carew is sick and has been all the way through the break.”

Your hopes for the ret of the season?
“The first part of the season was exceptional, but we will have to do better in the second half, as it is the business end, when you win the trophies. Honestly, I think we are very strong. With the right attitude, we are a match for anyone.”
