The visit of Troyes

This Saturday, Les Lyonnais host Troyes for the 14th time in Ligue 1 to the Stade Gerland and the first time since the 2002-03 season…
It was back on February 15 2003. That night, Heurtebis performed miracles in goal to somehow prevent Lyon from scoring even a single goal. Müller, Govou and Cacapa were in the starting line-up. Juninho was on the bench and only played the last 26 minutes. Coupet stayed on the bench the whole match while Puydebois played in goal. Why? Injured the week before by Shabani Nonda in Monaco, Coupet’s shoulder was still hurting and he withdrew from the squad during the warm-up. As for the Troyes players still in the squad, Amzine started, Nivet came off the bench while Sanz and Bangoura remained on the touchline. Mohamed Bradja, today one of the assistants to head coach Jean-Marc Furlan, started the match in the heart of the Troyes defence.

Juninho has played in the last four meetings against Troyes: twice in the starting line-up and twice off the bench. He has never played a whole match and was replaced both times after 74 minutes. He has never scored against this team either. However, he has beaten current Troyes goalkeeper Le Crom, while he was with Guingamp in 2002-03, 3-3.

Finally, this match has very much a Guingamp flavour. Le Crom, Guillaume, Montero, Kouassi, Danic and Dallet have all played for president Le Graët’s side (the first five all at the same time). They were teammates of Lyon’s Malouda during the 2002-03 season whenEn Avant won the final game of the season 4-1 at the Stade Gerland. Also of note is that ESTAC were OL’s opponents just before the Olympians took on AC Milan in April 2006. This Saturday they will be the team before Real Madrid…
