The France Under-19 squad failed to qualify for Euro 2006, despite another goal from Karim Benzema in their final game against Scotland.
The France Under-19 team failed to qualify for the 2006 European Championships which will take place in Poland in July. After defeating Bulgaria 4-0 and drawing with Belorus 0-0, Philippe Bergeroo's team needed to beat Scotland in Saturday's final game to go through. Les Bleus, featuring four Lyon players (Riou, Benzema, Paillot and Beynié) could only draw against Scotland in Minsk. Karim Benzema had opened the scoring after just 10 minutes, his third goal of the Elite Tour following his double against Bulgaria. However Scotland equalised via a second half free-kick and booked their place in the finals.
