Benzema shines with Under-19s

The France Under-19 side is currently in Belorussia competing on the Elite Tour, the second qualifying stage for the European Under-19 championships to be held in Poland between July 18 and 29 2006.
28 teams were divided into 7 groups of 4, with the top team in each qualifying automatically for the finals, where they will join the host nation Poland..

In Group 3, the France Under-19 side got off to the perfect start in the Elite Tour by defeating Bulgaria 4-0 in their opening match. Held scoreless until the 58th minute, the Baby Bleus finally went ahead thanks to a Karim Benzema penalty. The Lyon player then doubled the advantage a minute later before Sochaux's Jérémy Menez completed the scoring with another late double.

Karim Benzema wasn't the only Olympian on the field. Both Sandy Paillot and Romain Beynié also took part in the match while Rémy Riou remained on the bench.

On Thursday, France take on their hosts Belorussia before taking on Scotland on Saturday May 20.
